Vision & Hearing Loss Links

What services do you provide?

Depending on your questions or concerns regarding a child who has both a hearing loss and vision problem, services might look very different.

On-site help

One of our educational or family consultants might make a visit to a child’s home or school, to help the family or school team:

Training

WSDS offers local, regional, and state trainings throughout the year on topics relating to children and youths with deaf-blindness. See our Training Calendar for information on upcoming training opportunities. The Combined Summer Institute on Special Education (held annually in July in Yakima) is the place to participate in intensive training. You also might want to join one of our DB listservs to ask questions and learn about effective practices.

New! Instructions for Earning Clock Hours
Starting in June 2010, you can earn up to 4.5 clock hours for the three-part training on dual sensory disabilities by: (a) viewing the three parts of this recorded training (~90 minutes each), (b) completing questions for each of the three parts and (c) completing the evaluation survey. Download instructions and contact Mikaela O'Brien if you have questions.

Video Topics

Watch brief video clips of instructional strategies to use with deaf-blind children.

Parent Support

If you are a parent, you might simply want to talk with another parent on the phone, join a listserv to get information, borrow some videotapes or books, or be directed to some great websites.  You might want information on training opportunities, or state or national conferences.  Contact us or check our Resources section.
